As a senior citizen several life changes may contribute to a down sweep in your social life such as you may have lost friends and family, retirement can lend to social isolation and some physical impairment might have slowed you down. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still have a fulfilling and active social life! Here are some ideas how:
Be outgoing. Finding new friends is a great way to build your social circle. Speak to neighbors, church goers that you see every Sunday, or people you see running errands.
Explore your surroundings. Find out if there is a senior center in your community that offers senior activities.
Be open minded. It’s easy to get set in your ways but try to keep an open mind towards new people. Be open to befriending people who you might not immediately have a lot in common with.
Use technology. Try setting up a facebook page. This is a great way to reconnect with old friends and stay in touch with family.
Volunteer. Volunteering is a wonderful way to serve your church or community and create new friendships with others. Get involved!
