The benefits of volunteering to seniors are endless.  With many government and non-profit agencies and groups in every community there are many ways senior citizens can make positive and important use of their time with many personal benefits to their own health and well-being.

A recent survey of 200 volunteers 50 years or older who are volunteering an average of 6 hours a week to non-profit or Government Agencies was conducted.  Some reported a higher level of self-esteem and connectivity with other people.  A few more benefits are:

  1. Lower risk of depression
  2. Fewer physical limitations
  3. Less decline in health due to aging
  4. Increase in physical activity
  5. More engagement in the community
  6. Increase in friendships
  7. Feeling their life is improving
  8. Improvements in memory
