Soon-to-be centenarian Helen Graber will turn 100 years young on Sunday October 11, 2020!
Helen has been a member of the Brothers of Mercy Senior Apartments Community for 22 years. A 47-year cancer survivor, Helen considers her positive outlook and strong attitude as the driving forces which keep her going independently every day.
Fluent in Polish (and even some Russian!), Helen worked as a bookkeeper while raising her family, later spending over eight years giving back to the community by volunteering at a local hospital delivering flowers to patients!
Having lived through the Great Depression, the crash of the banks and stock market, multiple wars, and then some…the wisdom and advice she has garnered over the course of the past century is simple:
“Don’t waste time with anger. We all have differences, short tempers and experience impatience…recognize this and simply do what you need to do to just get along. And always lend a helping hand.”
When asked what her secret to being fabulous at 100 is:
“Always Keep Busy!”
Brothers of Mercy staff, residents and family members celebrated Helen’s fabulousness, while social distancing of course, on Wednesday, October 7th with songs, balloons and her favorite lemon cake!
