The Christmas season at Brothers of Mercy is one of the best times of the year! Our entire Wellness Campus transforms into a serene winter wonderland as our 126 acres are blanketed in beautiful snowfall and an excited buzz fills the air!
Highlights this holiday season included the December 6th Holiday Giftcard Gathering Event, held annually to benefit the Caritas Awards and patient care at BOM. The Volunteer and Enrichment Departments organized another wonderful Christmas Luncheon on Wednesday, December 11, to thank the over 100 volunteers who dedicate their time to the Brothers of Mercy each and every day. It’s been estimated that Brothers has benefitted from over 15,000+ hours of their selfless service! WOW! The annual Employee Christmas Luncheon was Thursday, December 19. Chef Kyle and his incredible team prepared an absolutely delicious lunch for members of the entire BOM community to enjoy.
Santa Claus paid a many number of visits to the BOM campus this December! Appearances included the Holiday Giftcard Gathering Party, The Senior Apartments and Montabaur Heights Annual Christmas Parties, The BOM Holiday Music Video, and the Christmas Sweater Contest at the Skilled Nursing Center, among others.
Tree trimming parties are always a hit around here, and a great way to bring residents together. Garland, lights, manger scenes and trees were all assembled, displayed or decked out, and each community was left looking and feeling more festive than ever! The residents and staff at Sacred Heart Home had a wonderful “Tree Trimming Extravaganza”, which included caroling, refreshments, and plenty of Christmas decorating! In keeping with tradition, residents at both the Senior Apartments and Montabaur Heights held their own tree trimming events as well. BOM Communities held door decorating contests, along with all floors of the Skilled Nursing Center (Congrats to our winners, 4West & 2West!!!). Residents of the Skilled Nursing Center also hosted a local girl scout troop, crafting Christmas ornaments and decorating a beautiful tree with them.
Inspired by the BOM mission of serving and sharing with those in need, the team at the Outpatient Therapy Clinic “adopted” 11 children through Son Rays Ministry this December. The Christmas “Giving Tree” has been generously supported by team members and patients alike, and will bring so much joy to kiddos who otherwise would have gone without this Christmas. Thank you to all who supported this wonderful cause!
Renee Villa, Campus Director of Spiritual Care, collaborated with Montabaur Heights resident Stephen Lewy on “Seasonal Faith Traditions”. This presentation highlighted the history of Hanukah and Advent, and included delicious traditional Jewish fare and entertainment by the talented Harold Jauch. Residents and staff decked themselves out in their best holiday sweaters on December 20th, also known as National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day! Ensembles included reindeer antlers, elf hats and garland galore!
Our last and most exciting highlight is the official “Brothers of Mercy Rings in the Holidays” music video launch! Over 2 dozen residents from all our BOM communities came together to celebrate the season and dance to an awesome Christmas mash-up!! Help us spread holiday cheer and smilings by sharing on social media! Check it out on youtube:
No matter how members of the BOM family chose to celebrate, there was plenty of holiday cheer to go around, and we are thankful for the enthusiasm and excitement from all involved. As we approach 2020, and reflect back upon all of the blessings that 2019 has brought, may we remember that the light of Christ lives in us all. Sending Christmas and New Year’s Blessings to all during this Holiday season, from the Brothers of Mercy!
