Today Don is a very active member of the Senior Apartments community, citing his apartment’s scenic nature views, the socialization (“They have birthday parties, and coffee hours!”), and making new friends, as some of his favorite aspects. Reuniting with old friends makes the cut as well; upon arrival, Don promptly ran into an old childhood friend from Riverside, whom he had not seen in almost 40 years!

Brothers of Mercy resident Stephan Lewy honored as Erie County Senior of the Year

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz and Commissioner of Personnel Timothy Hogues presented Stephan Lewy with the 2019 “Erie County Senior of the Year” award on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the Brothers of Mercy Wellness Campus. An author, lecturer, and presenter for the Erie County Department of Senior Services’ University Express program, Mr. Lewy is a Holocaust survivor and U.S. Army veteran. Now retired at 93, he volunteers with the local Holocaust Resource Center and shares his personal story with schoolchildren around Erie County; his presentations highlight the consequences of hatred.
