Western New York’s largest 5-star Wellness Campus has a new Director on board. Lana J. Kota has been appointed Director of Health Services at the Brothers of Mercy Sacred Heart Adult Home, part of the Brothers of Mercy Wellness Campus which serves over 500 residents, 1000 rehabbers, and employs 600.
Ms. Kota has over twenty-one years of experience working in the health services industry, most recently holding the position of Assistant Director of Nursing at Autumn View Manor, part of the McGuire Group. She got her start in healthcare as a CNA, later working in many nursing roles (including LPN, RN, Neuroscience Specialty RN, Nurse Manager, Assistant Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing).
A graduate of Daemen College’s Bachelor of Nursing program, Ms. Kota spent fifteen years working for Kaleida Health System, including Deaconess, Millard Fillmore Gates, Buffalo General/Gates Vascular Institute and High Pointe. Additional experience also includes roles as a Diabetes Educator at Seneca Nation Health System and the Director of Nursing at Elderwood Assisted Living.
In her new position, Ms. Kota will oversee the health services department of Sacred Heart Home as it migrates from its current 57,000-sq.-ft. location into a new, 92,000-sq.ft. location on the Brothers of Mercy Wellness Campus. With doors expected to open by early Fall 2020, Sacred Heart’s expansion will include the addition of 26 beds, totaling 96, and service lines will grow to include Assisted Living, Enhanced Assisted Living and Memory Care.
Ms. Kota will play an integral role in the opening of this innovative new community, which will employ an exclusive “Wellness Neighborhood” community design, the only one of its kind in Western New York and one of only a few models in the United States. This forward-thinking approach to senior care aims to replace the regimented structure, and often clinical feel, of traditional assisted living and memory care facilities with a flexible environment of care; evoking a home-like experience and placing the resident at the center of quality of care. Each of the community’s 6 “Wellness Neighborhoods” will connect under one roof, and be home to 16 residents.
Kota has extensive experience in human resources, clinical benchmarking, patient-centered care practices, diabetes education, neurological disorders and memory care. She looks forward to contributing all of her efforts into positively impacting the Brothers of Mercy community, stating, “I am deeply honored to become part of the BOM family, and grateful to pair my leadership experience with the legacy of the Brothers in order to aid in the continuity and quality of care for our current and future community.”
