On October 10, The Brothers of Mercy received an award at the National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) “Access to Good Jobs for All” luncheon. Our staff was nominated by People, Inc. for career development with employees with different types of needs.
Pictured holding the certificate is Christian Lippert, a dietary employee at Montabaur Heights; to his right is his supervisor, Justin Filipski, Director of Food Services at Montabaur Heights; and at far right is Karlena Sammarco, Director of Human Resources at The Brothers of Mercy.
Below is a summary of the award nomination our Campus received from People Inc.:
“The Brothers of Mercy provides a welcoming environment while reminding visitors and employees alike of professionalism and the mission statement. The Human Resources Department encourages people of all backgrounds and abilities to apply to work for them. They take the time to address specific questions, assist people with completing applications, are willing to discuss accommodations that people may need, and are willing to talk about advancement opportunities in the company.
They are willing to work with people who receive services from multiple agencies across Western New York. The recruitment team allows job coaches & employment specialists to assist with re-wording of information for the person being interviewed or will do it for the person if requested. During the interview, they ask about accommodations that an individual may need and how they can meet these accommodations.
They encourage the potential employee to be open to working in a different position if they aren’t hired for the position they applied for initially. If an accommodation needs to be changed or a person no longer needs an accommodation, they will work with the person to make sure they receive the accommodation that is needed.
Most recently, The Brothers of Mercy opened their doors to provide community-based work assessments and summer work experiences for students. They have truly become a reliable community partner. Barbara Kramer is always patient and understanding while working with everyone we have taken there.”
