The Brothers of Mercy Appoints Four New Members to Board of Directors

The Brothers of Mercy Wellness Campus Board of Directors today announced the appointment of four new board members, Dr. John Fudyma, Barb Losi, Richard Saffire and Larry Zielinski.

Dr. Fudyma is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Interim Division Chief of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics & Palliative Medicine at the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. Losi is a health care executive consultant with extensive experience in clinical operations, financial and information systems. Saffire is an experienced consultant and investor and Zielinski is the Executive Director of Primary Care IPA, Inc.

We are pleased to add their vast skills and deep business and health care industry experiences in service of our mission of providing compassionate care to Western New Yorkers,” said David Nasca, Chairperson of the Board of the Directors. “Given the growth of the Wellness Campus in recent years and the need to address the continuing challenges of the health care industry, expanding the Board was critical to ensuring that we continue to uphold the highest standards of care that have consistently earned us the 5-star Medicare rating.”

Dr. Fudyma previously was the Chief Medical Officer of Latus Medical Care, Seneca Nation Health Department and the Erie County Medical Center. He received the New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians Laureate Award in 2018 and was named a Top 50 Health Care Leader by Buffalo Business First in 2014. He earned his bachelor of arts in biology from Hamilton College and graduated from the Jacobs School of Medicine.

Losi previously worked as a health care consultant for Freed Maxick and served clients across New York State, including acute and post-acute care organizations and physician practices. She also was the Chief Administrative Officer for Kaleida Health, responsible for corporate services and implementation of system-wide strategic initiatives. Her experience focuses on operations and enterprise information system technology.

Saffire is managing member of Clearwater Partners, LLC venture capital firm. He previously was the owner of Clearwater Straws and Sovereign Tobacco Company in Angola. He also served as the Chief Financial Officer of International Fiber Corporation in North Tonawanda and Smokin Joe’s in Sanborn. He is a retired CPA and earned a bachelor of business administration from St. Bonaventure University.

Zielinski previously served as the Executive-in-Residence for Health Care Administration at the University at Buffalo School of Management, responsible for the development and delivery of a program to develop the clinical and administrative health care leaders of the future. He also was the president of Buffalo General Hospital and the Visiting Nursing Association of Western New York. He has an MBA and a bachelor of arts in sociology from the University at Buffalo.

The rest of the Board of Directors consists of Monsignor David Lipuma; Brother Kenneth Thomas, FMMA, House Superior of The Brothers of Mercy; Roopa Chakkappan, Partner at Hodgson Russ, LLP; Cindy Eller, Chief Development Officer at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center; Thomas Fentner, President of HR Solutions; David Nasca, President & CEO of Evans Bank; Michael E. McRae, President & CEO of St. Ann’s Community in Rochester; David Rogers, Founder of Life Storage, Inc.; Dr. Michael Noe, Clinical Professor Emeritus in the Department of Epidemiology & Environmental Health and Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Medicine at the University at Buffalo; and Peter Eimer, Chief Executive Officer of The Brothers of Mercy (ex-officio).
