Wellness Campus Looking for New Volunteers for Variety of Activities
Clarence. NY – The Brothers of Mercy Nursing Mercy Wellness Campus recently honored its 2023 Volunteers of the Year during a special recognition dinner that celebrated the talents and contributions of all volunteers throughout the year. The three Volunteers of the year were:
– Mike Coon, a volunteer for 11 years is a Eucharistic Minister in the Spiritual Care Department
– Mary Sondel, a volunteer for 19 years, sorted and delivered mail and completed many other assignments for the Skilled Nursing Center staff
– Bob Coffey, a volunteer for six years, is a Eucharistic Minister in the Spiritual Care Department
“The dedication and compassion of our volunteers is truly impressive,” said Valerie Sonnenfeld, Volunteer Coordinator at The Brothers of Mercy. “Their encouragement, respect, support, flexibility and friendship are essential to coordinate a successful, organized volunteer program.”
The Brothers of Mercy Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Sacred Heart Home Assisted Living and Memory Care are always seeking new volunteers to help with a variety of patient and resident activities. Volunteers are motivated by many reasons to help others, and they can be retired individuals, concerned citizens, active professionals, friends, family members, former rehabilitation patients and high school and college students looking to learn new skills or fulfill community service requirements.
Volunteers provide an extra dimension to add to the comfort, care and happiness of residents and patients. They are scheduled to specific assignments by the volunteer coordinator. Activities include therapy transport, activities, spiritual care, gift shop, clerical, friendly visitor, dog visits, beauty shop and podiatrist transport, sewing, sorting and delivering mail.
